Science Based Targets initiative Approves Greenplaces’ Near-Term Science-Based Emissions Reduction Target

By Andrew "Riz" Rizkallah · May 18, 2026

Sustainability platform leads by example, validating its own 1.5°C-aligned emissions reduction target under the SBTi’s pathway for small and medium-sized enterprises.

Greenplaces, the sustainability platform helping organizations of all sizes measure, manage, and reduce their environmental impact, today announced that the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) has approved the company’s near-term science-based emissions reduction target. The target was validated through the SBTi’s streamlined route for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), confirming that Greenplaces’ corporate climate ambition is in line with the level of decarbonization required to keep global warming to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels.

Approved Target

Greenplaces commits to reduce absolute Scope 1 and Scope 2 greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions 42% by 2030 from a 2024 base year. Greenplaces also commits to measure and reduce its Scope 3 emissions in line with SBTi criteria for SMEs.

The validation marks a milestone for Greenplaces, whose compliance platform helps thousands of businesses, from growth-stage SMEs to global enterprises, take credible climate action. With its own near-term target now approved by the SBTi, Greenplaces is applying the same rigor it asks of the companies it serves.

We built Greenplaces to make ambitious climate action achievable for every business, especially the small and mid-sized companies that make up the backbone of the global economy,” said Alex Lassiter, CEO and Founder of Greenplaces. “Having our own near-term target validated by the SBTi is more than a milestone, it’s a commitment. We’re holding ourselves to the same standard we help our customers meet, and we’re proving that SMEs don’t have to wait to lead on climate.”

The SBTi’s SME route provides a streamlined pathway for smaller organizations to set credible, science-aligned emissions reduction targets without the complexity of the full corporate validation process. It requires participating companies to commit to reducing their Scope 1 and 2 emissions in line with a 1.5°C trajectory and to measure and reduce emissions across their value chain (Scope 3).

Setting a target is the easy part. Delivering on it is the work,” said Corinne Hanson, VP of Sustainability at Greenplaces. “Our validated near-term target gives us a clear, science-based roadmap to 2030, with the same emissions inventory, reduction levers, and reporting workflows we use to support our customers every day. Walking this path ourselves makes us a better partner to the businesses walking it with us.

According to the SBTi, more than 10,000 companies and financial institutions worldwide are working with the initiative to reduce their emissions in line with climate science. SMEs represent a growing share of that movement and play a critical role in decarbonizing global supply chains.

Greenplaces’ approved target is published on the SBTi’s Target Dashboard. The company will report progress against the target as part of its annual sustainability disclosures through CDP.
