Walmart supplier requirements
What Walmart requires
Walmart requires direct suppliers to disclose emissions and climate-related data through the CDP Supply Chain program. Project Gigaton, Walmart's commitment to reduce one billion metric tons of CO2 equivalent from its supply chain by 2030, cascades into category-specific emissions reduction expectations.
Unlike EcoVadis, CDP Supply Chain disclosures are shared only with the requesting customer (in this case, Walmart). Suppliers receive a private scorecard. But the disclosure itself is the gate, non-response is treated as a red flag in supplier reviews.
What happens if you don't meet it
Walmart has communicated that suppliers who fail to engage with CDP Supply Chain face procurement consequences ranging from increased scrutiny on renewals to reduced order volume. Suppliers who proactively meet or exceed Walmart's category expectations are highlighted internally.
How to prepare quickly
CDP's portal opens in April; Supply Chain submissions are due by July. If you haven't built a defensible GHG inventory, the timeline is tight but workable. The most common stumbling block is Scope 3, particularly purchased goods and services, which dominate most supplier emissions footprints.
Our CDP disclosure service manages the full Supply Chain questionnaire and submission. The most common stumbling block is Scope 3 — carbon accounting is the starting point.
