SSE Sustainability Reporting Guidelines No. 14 (Trial)
SSE Sustainability Reporting Guidelines No. 14 (Trial): mandatory standalone sustainability and ghg emissions reporting for major shanghai stock exchange-listed companies from fy 2025.
What it is
The SSE Sustainability Reporting Guidelines No. 14 (Trial) are issued by the Shanghai Stock Exchange (SSE) and establish mandatory standalone sustainability reporting for major listed companies. They require standardized disclosure of environmental, social, and governance metrics, including GHG emissions and climate risk. Although labeled a trial, the guidelines signal China's broader move toward mandatory corporate sustainability disclosure with expected national rollout.
Who must comply
Reporting is mandatory for companies listed on the SSE 180 Index, the STAR 50 Index, or with dual-listed A+H shares. Other listed entities are encouraged to report but are not yet required to do so.
What you must disclose
Companies must publish standalone sustainability reports covering Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions (Scope 3 encouraged), energy, water, and waste metrics, climate risk and opportunity discussion, workforce diversity, occupational health and safety, and anti-corruption measures. Reports require board-level approval and year-on-year comparability.
Timeline
The Guidelines were introduced in December 2022, with updates last modified in 2024. They are effective from FY 2025, with first mandatory reports due in April 2026. Framed as a trial, they signal a broader mandatory sustainability reporting push across China.
